In 1974, a group of concerned employers and labor leaders in St. Joseph County began meeting to discuss ways to help employees experiencing personal difficulties. The Alcohol and Addictions Resource Center, a leader in the development of employee assistance programs in Indiana, set up Labor Management Services (LMS). LMS was the first provider of employee assistance program services in the state of Indiana. LMS was renamed the Michiana Employee Assistance Program in 1984 and continues to operate services under the auspices of AARC.
However, just like the evolution of the car industry with the introduction to modern technology, the EAP industry has also evolved and adapted to meet the needs of employers and employees. In 2004, after years of providing subcontracting services to Perspectives, a nationwide Chicago based EAP Company, a formal collaboration between MEAP and Perspectives was formed. This collaboration between the agencies has allowed MEAP to continue to provide quality, personalized, home town EAP services to Northern Indiana employers, employees and their families while utilizing Perspectives nationwide services and technology.
It continues to be our privilege to collaborate with local business to support employees and their families through change, challenges, and progress. We salute the employers of our community for their ongoing commitment to the local workforce through EAP services, and we look forward to many more years of providing assistance to further strengthen the local economy and Michiana families.
